Gathering in circle is an ancient and important practice. Whether it is round a fire, a kitchen table or a zoom call, the way we gather is important.
In circle we listen and we share without interruption. We are witnessed and we witness others in a brave and transformative way. These spaces are precious and powerful.
Parker Palmer
Circles are a very simple format, where a group will gather (in whatever way, whether in person or online) and simply share whatever comes up for them. The sessions are very gently facilitated, starting with an introduction, some guidelines and overview of what happens in Circle, a meditation and then the space is opened to share whatever is in the participants hearts.
Being in circle can be healing and validating. We don't offer advice, opinions or try to fix - we allow people to express themselves, and we hold that warmly and without judgement.
The way that we are heard and hear others in Circle is unlike interactions that we are likely to have in our day to day life. It is a very special experience. We practice listening mindfully and we experience being heard fully.
Through sharing openly and hearing other people share, we learn so much about the world, about others and about ourselves. Circle space is hard to describe, but often the word 'magic' is used when reflecting on a Circle experience.
There is no pressure to share at all. It is all entirely optional and we encourage you to honour whatever feels most supportive to you in that moment. You may be surprised at what comes up for you within the space and feels like it wants to be shared.
If you join a Circle and simply listen for the entire session, then you have still offered an incredibly generous space and attention for the sharing of others, as well as having practiced truly mindful listening, which can be a very powerful experience.
